Photos from National Parents' Day 2017, July 29 at Pasadena City Hall
On a sunny Saturday morning in late July, more than 100 people were gathered at Pasadena City Hall to attend a major event for Parents' Day 2017. Among those assembled were more than 25 sets of parents who were about to be honored as "Parents of the Year". Children, grandchildren and their friends came for this very special occasion, to celebrate these model parents from their communities. The couples who were awarded included Keith & Katrin McCarthy, Rick & Mayumi Joswick, Rev. Mark Tengan and Rev. & Mrs. Young Tack Yang. Congratulations to all the 2017 Parents of the Year!
A complementary luncheon was held at the beautiful Pasadena House patio, hosted by Nasser Zomorod and his team with delicious home made Iranian dishes. Many guests who attended the Parents' Day event for the first time were very impressed with the work of Rev. & Mrs. Moon in the interfaith and inter-religious peace movement.
Next day at Sunday Service at Los Angeles Family Church, Nasser Zomorod, Executive Director of UPF Southern California, gave a message about Parents' Day from the words of Rev. Sun Myung Moon. He also gave a detailed report about the events of the previous day, mentioning that, for the first time, each "Parents of the Year" received honorary certificates from three different offices; those of Senator Anthony Portantino, Congresswoman Judy Chu, and Pasadena Councilman Chris Holden. In fact, it was Senator Portantino himself who presented each certificate and gave the keynote address. Nasser concluded his remarks by encouraging everyone to join the Parents' Day celebration next year.
