"Broaden Your Vision, Heighten Your Dreams"
Dr. Cecil L. "Chip" Murray will speak
Dear Faith and Community Leaders,
You are invited to join us for a prayer breakfast on Saturday, January 27 at 9am at the Pico Union Project on 1153 Valencia St, Los Angeles, CA 90015. The keynote address, “Broaden Your Vision, Heighten Your Dreams”, will be given by Dr. Cecil Murray, senior fellow at the USC Center for Religion and Civic Culture and Chairman of the Cecil Murray Center for Community Engagement.
For 27 years, Dr. Murray pastored the First African Methodist Episcopal Church (FAME) of Los Angeles. During his tenure, he transformed a small congregation of 250 into an 18,000-person church with multi-million dollar community and economic development programs that have brought jobs, housing, and corporate investment into many South Los Angeles neighborhoods.
Born the same year as Dr. Martin Luther King, Dr. Murray embodies a rich spiritual legacy with the capacity to heal division and create community. In this regard, he is a living resource of vital importance to the next generation. In his autobiography, Twice Tested by Fire: A Memoir of Faith and Service, Dr. Murray eloquently shares his passion; "Our endangered communities are lost unless the churches in their midst help to provision the journey toward a new life. Personal salvation must be of a piece with social salvation...for only then is the Word made flesh." Youth pastors and leaders attending the prayer breakfast will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Murray personally and will also receive a signed copy of his autobiography.
Let's work together to build positive relationships both spiritually and substantially in the restoration of our community. Please join us; we look forward to seeing you on January 27.
